From the Desk of Brent Greer, County Mayor

The Henry County Commission voted to purchase Weston Hall to be ultimately used as archives, genealogy room and possibly a museum.  The purchase of Weston Hall was a part of the transaction that will allow the Henry County Board of Education to proceed with the addition to Grove School.  The process will continue if the credit markets become more favorable with regards to the interest rate of the bonds needed to finance the project.

In another matter, the Commission will be receiving a report from the Courthouse Committee with a recommendation on whether or not to proceed with entering into an agreement with an Energy Service Company (ESCO) to provide an energy efficiency survey on selected county buildings.  The company would ultimately guarantee projected savings that would cover the costs of the energy efficiency improvements that the county would make based on the survey.

Through the period of July 1st, through September 30th, 2008, the county’s sales tax revenue has remained level as compared to the same time period in 2007.  Although we believe serious economic challenges will continue to face our state and community, we remain confident that our citizens will make the necessary choices to assure that Henry County will continue to be the best possible place to live and raise a family.

The county remains in discussion with a company interested in the spec building in the Paris Industrial Park. Also, work continues on the Skykits building at the Henry County Airport.  The business hopes to be in operation by the end of 2008.  In addition, a lease agreement between the county and Paris Landing State Park is in the final stages which will enable the county to begin construction on the Emergency Services Complex on Highway 79.

As we approach 2009, we must look to the future with a confident and compassionate vision for our community.  Challenges that we face must quickly become opportunities that we can achieve.
